Coronavirus update from Seattle

Early this year, in the month of January. B was flying back to Seattle from Canada on a business cum personal trip. On that very same day, I received a forward message, stating some deathly virus infecting people at the SeaTac airport. I would hardly ever send forwards to B. But that day, that message just struck me, and I quickly sent it to him. And I remembered he said we all need to be safe and not step out. Hmm well, I was like “it’s at airport, you be careful. Let’s think about us staying at home later.”

Fast forward— March.. the virus is doing its rounds, lots of news, virus spread by a man who traveled from China to Seattle. The word - Quarantine being used a lot. People in panic mode. And there’s another term- Paranoid. And soon another term- Social distancing.

First we received a huge volume of news. Then there was a never ending lot of forwards on social media. Soon memes started out by mid March. Meanwhile, people started prepping to be in QUARANTINE (meaning isolating yourself from the rest of the world). Stay home they said! So started the overdoing of stocking up on grocery, cleaning/ sanitizing stuffs, and cancelling on events. That went overboard a bit, where the grocery stores got emptied out.. out of toilet paper, out of tissues, wipes, sanitizers, out of many necessities. PARANOID is the word! And then government officials and news stated to avoid gatherings. The size of gathering was limited. It started at 250 and then went to 200 to 100 to 25 to 10. SOCIAL DISTANCING was the latest thing. At groceries and parks, people started practicing standing a couple of feet apart.

The unfortunate part of being in Seattle- it started here. We are leading in the count of cases and deaths too. As of today March 21- the city hasn’t been lockdown yet. While Italy, China have locked down and things are getting better. Also recently New York and California are going lock down as well. In Seattle, there’s a equal number of people out there- on the roads, trails, and grocery! I know this as I too had been stepping out fairly a lot.

But I stopped going to any other place, other than walks and grocery! Guess we will be cutting down on grocery too going forward!

The situation is only getting worst. My prediction is that this state of the virus ðŸ¦  spread will cool down when summer is here. But might be back once winter comes each year and along with flu vaccine, we would be taking a covid vaccine as well. That’s my PREDICTION, from what I have been reading and hearing so far!

Our City, State and Country, maybe even this World is being affected in many ways- all businesses are affected - malls closed, restaurants closed, airports/ flights grounded, events cancelled, movie theaters closed, casinos, and all enclosed indoor locations. Even government offices. Visa processing’s in standstill. The country’s borders are closed. Many rules put in. And on the bright side, a polluted misused EARTH is getting back to a beautiful place- with less pollution, less fuel consumption, more work from home, meaning less office spaces, no commune time, more family time, and then there’s everyone eating healthy, cooking fresh wholesome meals at home! With endless possibilities to better our lives! While maybe the initial transition would cause some depression and being a couch potato!

It’s easy for the HOMEBODIES, but like jail for ME! Hope I soon make this time more productive and creative! Luck to me and all of you’ll struggling with this huge change!

What a 2020!

THE BOOK OF OPPOSITES

Balu and Aki are two strong thinking people, but from different angles (read as OPPOSITE ANGLES). In everything you take- they stand fierce and strong in the right OPPOSITE direction to each other. We finally AGREED to DISAGREE on everything and stay happily together.

As we approach 2020, we would like to reflect to the time we got married and since then the things that have changed in our life- the good, bad and the way we are growing stronger and smarter. The OPPOSITES that we have AGREED upon to DISAGREE!

Yes, there you have it- Agreed to disagree. This is now in no particular order.

He is the PICKY EATER, while I eat ALMOST EVERYTHING WITHOUT COMPLIANT. And then he is a COFFEE PERSON, while I can’t just stand the smell of the COFFEE BEANS. He loves SPICY FOOD, while I would be hissing like a snake- MILDLY SPICY please. He is a MORNING PERSON and me a NIGHT PERSON. Oh no! And he is a VERY RELIGIOUS GUY while I am not so much- NON-RELIGIOUS.

Okay, lets step out: Grocery store maybe, He is like WHITE BREAD and I am like WHEAT BREAD man. And then he goes can we do the UNSCENTED DISH-WASHING LIQUID and I am like I love the citrus fruit flavors- SCENTED is the way to go. Okay chuck it, let’s go to out to eat, He is like INDIAN, oh man, that’s what we eat daily at home, I am like let’s try INTERNATIONAL. And then he is like ok, THAI /CHINESE? Hmm, well, not the same restaurants again, come on let’s explore new ones- Maybe ETHIOPIAN or ITALIAN? So, what happens finally- ASIAN and MILDLY SPICY it is!! HA! OK lets go to the movies, Balu picks this POLITICAL, HISTORICAL OR TERRORISM kind of movies, while I am like even popcorn wont suffice to sit in there for that long. FACE-PALM SITUATIONS! I definitely need a ROMANTIC OR THRILLER kind of story.

A plan gets cancelled. I just HATE that. But he can easily make and cancel plans, while I just HATE FALSE PROMISES. Nowadays every plan made comes with a disclaimer- SUBJECT TO CHANGE- NO GUARANTEE!!!

Weekends- What would you do? Aki loves to step out with a great plan, while Balu is a HOMEBODY.

While at a VACATION CABIN, what would you do? HIKING or just chill in the cabin. You should be knowing by now who does what. I do more PLANNED VACATIONS whereas he’s does the LAID-BACK SPONTANEOUS VACATIONS- it sounds like a lot of waste of time for me. HAHA! Oh, and when we have a flight to catch, I guess this one is at everyone’s home. You can find me PACKING AHEAD -3 weeks ahead. With a revision packing and fully planned. And there’s Balu PACKING LAST MINUTE- just 2 hours before flight even its an international one.

He calls his PARENTS EVERYDAY and I am here- they call me once in a couple of weeks- we don’t have track! And he meets his parents more frequently than me, even though we are distance wise closer! LOL! I am QUIET when friends around (LOUD on chat though) while he’s the opposite. And the social media- me more active and he’s just scrolling and stalking folks. OOPS! I speak more TAMIL and He does more TELUGU! Ofcourse we know both! I am always listening to the latest Tamil cine song and while he is humming an old Telugu or Tamil song. Oh, that reminds me- he sings well. I haven’t heard myself sing! No way! You would always find me lowering the volume of the music. Yes, he does TOO LOUD MUSIC, me MILD! But this reminds me of something else that’s strange- I am a social party animal and he hates the scenario!

He like RAW ONIONS! No way here! His love for Hyderabadi Biriyani is VERA LEVEL! I initially didn’t like the dryness of it! But now developed a taste for it! I love it too now!

I am a BLOGGER and He is a VLOGGER! I love taking PICTURES and he is more into taking VIDEOS! Oh GOD! Not any bit common! I guess we just refuse to match in anything!

He has ROUTINES and I have UNPREDICTABLE NON-ROUTINE days. Guess that’s what you are when you are too creative! LOL! Yup I am the more Imaginative, creative, fun person while he is the hardworking, sincere and focused guy! I am ADVENTUROUS and He is CAUTIOUS!

PARENTING – NO SAFETY AROUND HOME VS OVER-PROTECTIVE! I am the former and he is the latter!

I am cold-hearted, Practical and he is Sensitive and Emotional Kind of!

Has a HATE-LIST! Nope not me!

I follow the ZODIAC SIGNS while He believes in INDIAN ASTROLOGY and VAASTU!

I am PUNCTUAL and he follows the INDIAN STANDARD TIME! LOL!

So, what’s in common? A few things here and there!

  1.  Both like to Cook, but our cooking styles are different!
  2. We do Movie nights- Thrillers mostly!
  3. Both like Chennai- For him its family time and trying out all restaurants, and for me it’s catching up with relatives and my beloved cousins!
  4. We both love Driving!
  5.   Love to host friends at home!!
  6.  Hate Holi
  7. Dislike ghost movies! OK TIME TO CHANGE- NOT THE RIGHT MOVIE! But I guess I am not that scared as compared to him! OOPS!

Happy 6th Anniversary to us on the 6th of February 2020!

The BIG 30

22nd Jan - wed - woke up- booked appointment for a haircut- pinged Tvisha daycare teacher to take care of her for an hour or so- went for a haircut ! Meanwhile Tvisha told her teacher, mom’s gone to get a haircut! Haha.

24th Jan - Friday - woke up- pinged daycare teacher again to take care of take care of Tvisha for 1-2 hours- got manicure, pedicure and a nice foot massage done! So relaxing!

Packed bag for the trip with Tvisha. This was her first conscious trip. She actually understood everything that was happening around her. Or Atleast was trying to understand.

25th - Saturday- woke up- got ready morning started to Portland. Around 1 pm Balu said “ok look for restaurants around” and I was like “ I want this trip to be all food trucks” but lol we had crossed a kind of major city, leaving us with less options. Then I found cute little Thai place close to the border of Washington and a park right behind it. As the weather was getting better, it was a perfect time for a little photoshoot.

We had kinda filled ourselves with snacks on the drive, so weren’t too hungry- we ordered a pad Thai at this restaurant called “ the Thai dish” and shared it. The restaurant opens directly to the dining area with no reception. An old man said we can sit anywhere. He then brought us 3 cups of ice water with lemon slices in them. And also handed us the menu cards.

Then behind it, there was a greenery filled park. Had a mini photo shoot session there.

Then went to Portland downtown - pioneer place mall. Had Chinese food there.

Then the plan was to do food trucks .. but suddenly felt so tired, so headed the hotel. We checked in, the receptionist gave us cookies and water bottles, along with the keys to our room on the fourth floor. He also said breakfast was available from 6 to 10 am. After putting all our bags and stuff in the room, Balu said he will go get food from some indian. Meanwhile Tvisha opened up her gift which I got her from the mall- frozen tea cups set for her pretend tea party! And then after a long wait, Balu came back with food and a surprise cake.

After which I received a FaceTime call from my girls gang besties - jenn, Mary, moni, ramy, and Prathima !

I went to bed thinking of breakfast.

26th - Sunday - next morning I woke a bit early for breakfast, while the other two were still sleeping. I quickly had some breakfast. Breakfast was great- lots of options. The best thing was freshly pressed juice.

After breakfast, I was back with some for them. I sat around for an hour and then slipped back to sleep till he decided to finally wake up. We then all got up and ready and out for another park and another mini photo shoot session with another outfit.

Then from there, finally to the food truck pod in downtown Portland. Tasted a dish each from each foot truck. The pod named “Cartopia”  was so good with a lot of picnic bench in the center and surrounded with food trucks on its periphery. And a few benches within a big tent. And fireplaces set up between every few benches. All the trucks gave us the vibrating devices to wait for our orders. We had a warm outdoor lunch experience. Loved that!

From there we headed home. Tired again. Throughout the last two days I left all my friends phones beeping with WhatsApp status and Instagram stories updates almost every hour of the weekend!
